How we Generated Awareness and Support for Ukraine in January 2026

We started 2026 off strong by creating awareness and generating support for Ukraine through music and film. Taken together, our volunteers reached 500 community members. A special thank you to Planina, a Boulder/Denver based vocal and instrumental ensemble specializing in folk music from Eastern Europe, for performing Ukrainian carols and dedicating proceeds of their holiday concerts to Sunflower Seeds Ukraine! Thanks also to the Dairy Arts Center of Boulder for showing the film Timestamp, about wartime youth in Ukraine, and giving us space to share information about Sunflower Seeds Ukraine.

Sunflower Seeds Ukraine also proudly co-presented YAGÓDY, a Ukrainian folk band from Lviv Ukraine with Boulder's Dairy Art Center. These cultural warriors captured our hearts and showed us that Ukrainian resilience comes in many forms, including through maintaining, reviving, and creating Ukrainian culture. We are also grateful to Centro Mexican Kitchen, a Dine Out for Ukraine participant, for welcoming YAGÓDY for a traditional Ukrainian Kolyada.
