DID YOU KNOW? UKRAINE WAS A BREADBASKET OF EUROPE

Ukraine has long been called “the breadbasket of Europe,” but it could justifiably be called “the breadbasket of the world.” Boasting 42 million hectares of agricultural land and some of the most fertile soil on earth (known as chernozem), Ukraine ranks first in the world in global sunflower and sunflower oil production and export, is one of the world’s top producers/exporters of barley, corn, rye and wheat, and is the world’s fourth largest producer of potatoes. Ukrainian farmers grow crops for export across Europe, as well as China, Turkey, India, Egypt and Africa. According to most estimates, Ukraine has the ability to provide enough food for half a billion people, maybe more.
